Okay, more on content marketing. Lots of sites tell you that they’ll create content for you: they have ten thousand monkeys which will write 500-word articles about your wonderful product or company and that’s all you need to win in content marketing.

If only.

Google and Bing caught on to that trick. Their human reviewers flagged these sites (let’s call them content farms, tho’ content monkey house would be a better word) and they blocked these sites. If someone pays these idiots to write content about their products, they’ve wasted their money. Nobody will ever see those articles.

Here’s the list. Where did I get this from? It’s in Bing’s manual for their Quality Raters (yes, Bing also has thousands of people who review webpages.) Since Bing mentions this list in their manual, it’s safe to guess Google also uses this list. Content at these junk sites are blocked at Bing and Google.

List of Content Farms, by Anise Kirkpatrick
Blekko has a ‘contentfarm’ slashtag that has more than one hundred of these sites. I’m a co-editor and found many of them by monitoring sites of writers who write for the content farms. They know they are writing junk. There’s even a LinkedIn group for writers who write for content farms.
